Skin Cancer

A 70-year old male was brought for consult because of a non-healing ulcer on his chin. It apparently started as 'pimple-like' lesion that was abraded during shaving. The ulceration persisted for over a month prompting consult. Histopath of the removed tissue revealed Basal Cell Carcinoma. It's been almost 2 months since the surgery but the incision site remained conspicuous. He is scheduled for Moh's Micrographic surgery. 2 years ago, I also removed a mole from a 54-year old female from the tip of her nose for aesthetic reason and because apparently it was getting bigger. Histopath of the removed tissue also turned out to be Basal Cell Carcinoma. When the patient showed up for follow-up 2 months after, except for a very minimal scar on the operative site, there was no sign of recurrence or 'danger' sign of cancer. I opted to observe and so far, the patient is well up to this time. I have had other cases of skin cancer and each has its own behavior. It's

Dizziness

A friend of mine called me up the other day because he wanted me to perform on him some maneuvers that might relieve him of his dizziness and light-headedness. Being an ENT specialist himself, he was thinking that he might be suffering from a condition that we refer to as BPPV. True enough, after I did the Epley's maneuver on him, he noted a dramatic relief from his dizziness. Here's an article regarding this condition for the information of everyone. You might experience this too or already be suffering from it, so this will surely be of help. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is an inner ear problem that causes a spinning or whirling sensation when you move your head. That sensation is called vertigo. This vertigo usually lasts for less than a minute. It may be mild, or it may be bad enough to cause nausea. What causes BPPV ? Experts do not know for sure, but suspect that particles of calcium normally found in your ear break off and float into

6-4-2

By the looks of it, the result of the senatorial race will be a 6-4-2. Six from the 'supposedly' genuine opposition, four from the 'allegedly' team unity, and two 'self-proclaimed' independent. Seven of these emerging winners got my vote. Now that it's over, I hope a 'significant' change will dawn on our country. My expectations are high and I don't want to be short-changed. As Ylmaz gave Ruffa an ultimatum, so will I to this government. If nothing will change in the next three years, I will strongly consider moving out, even if no one will care!

I Will Sell My Vote!

Three days before the election, I made up my mind and decided to sell my vote! Yes, I will sell my vote. I will sell it to candidates who will pay me with a thousand pesos worth of sincerity, five hundred pesos worth of service and a hundred pesos worth of integrity! So, for a cheap sum of Php 1,600.00, my vote is up for grab! Here are the list of 'senatoriable traders' who have a good chance of getting a deal for my vote. 1. Bautista, Martin - a 'small scale' trader I should say, compared to the others, and it might not be a 'popular' investment but his eloquence and impressive ideas for good governance and significant reforms puts him my leading 'dark horse'. 2. Zubiri, Miguel - his track record in Congress is impressive and its unfortunate that not many know this. It's always safe to go for someone who made a lot of 'good deals' in the past. 3. Escudero, Francis - I admire this guy for being 'professional' in all his u

What I Remember About Them!

I can’t help but remain in the ‘election’ mood and shy away from medical/dental posts for a while. I guess if you are bombarded by election-related issues every minute from TV, radio and newspapers, it is impossible not to get affected and involved. Still in the process of choosing whom to vote for the Senate seats, here’s the first thing/s that come/s to mind for each of the candidate vying for the post. It's funny because from these alone, I don't have much of a good choice. Angara, Edgardo Endorsed by the Aquino’s before. Had a political fight with Lacson in 2004. All out support for the candidacy of FPJ Now with the administration. Aquino, Benigno Son of Ninoy and Cory Brother of Kris, didn’t talk with her for 3 years Congressman of Tarlac Did not comment when the Hacienda Luisita massacre happened Arroyo, Joker Held NSA Gonzalez in contempt defying Malacanang pleas Member of Wednesday group Bautista, Martin The doctor who stayed for a while in the US

Early morning thoughts

I woke up this morning with thoughts on the coming election. It might have been due to the news article I read yesterday regarding the SWS survey saying that around 60 to 70% of Filipinos believe that cheating will mar this election. I don’t know the real objective of this survey but, for a moment, it surely made me lose interest and trust in this coming electoral exercise. It may have been the effect to the others who have read it as well. If it was really the goal of the survey to incite such attitude, then it succeeded big time. Rebounding from the temporary ‘brain wash’, I thought I shouldn’t be influenced by this survey. I should still hang on to my faith and hope that things would be better after the election, and that the best people for the positions will win. I will remain optimistic that life will be better in this country of mine. I am now in the process of evaluating each and every candidate running for office and this early, I have considered some who are not that

Today Is No Pants Day!

I found this interesting trivia as I was surfing the web and it caught my attention. For one, I thought it's absurd and 'insignificant'. Why would people advocate not wearing pants in this day and age? As I read through the Wikipidia article though, it said " when large groups of people parade around in public without their pants, amazing things are bound to happen. At the very least, you'll take your drab, wretched life a little less seriously, at least for one day!" Then I got the point. Surely, we have become so engrossed with the 'superficial" and have forgotten the more important 'core' of being. We cover ourselves with a 'pleasing' persona to mask a rotting inner self. We wear the best clothes to hide body diseases. Indeed, it's all skin-deep! Whoever thought of this 'holiday' knows that life is more than a pair of Levis jeans! No Pants Day is an international 'holiday' occasionally observed in several

A Wishful Autobiography Of A Filipino

It’s the first of May and it’s crunch time for the Filipino politicians. In two weeks time, we get the chance to make or break our country again. I really do hope we have learned from our mistakes in the past and not succumb to the consequences of our silliness once more. Here’s a wishful autobiography for us all this year. 1. I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost. I am helpless. It isn’t my fault. It takes forever to find a way out. 2. I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in. I can’t believe I’m in the same place, but it isn’t my fault. It still takes a long time to get out. 3. I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in. It’s a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately. 4. I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it. 5. I walk down a different
