Priorities and Mysteries

Let me end the week and month by sharing these two beautiful articles shared to me by e-mail. It's worth reading. ON PRIORITIES.... Your priorities are not determined by what you say they are. Your most genuine priorities are expressed by what you actually do with your life and your time. Look around you, and you'll see very clearly what your priorities have been up to this point. Those priorities have brought you to where you are right now. If something is truly a priority for you, you absolutely are able to find a way to reach it. If it's not a priority, it's probably not going to happen for you. You can set your priorities and you can change them at any time to be whatever you choose. But merely wishing for something does not make it a priority. The priorities that are really priorities are the ones that dictate where you focus your awareness. The priorities that truly matter are the ones in which you invest your interest, your attention and, m

"STROKE"

More and more people are victims of "stroke". Even young adults aged 29-32 succumb to this dreaded disease.  Let's get to know more about it for our protection. Stroke 101 Stroke is a brain attack, cutting off vital blood flow and oxygen to the brain. Stroke can happen to anyone at any time, regardless of race, sex or age. • Types of Stroke: o Ischemic stroke occurs when arteries are blocked by blood clots or by the gradual buildup of plaque and other fatty deposits. Almost 85 percent of all strokes are ischemic. o Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain breaks leaking blood into the brain. Hemorrhagic strokes account for about fifteen percent of all strokes, yet are responsible for more than thirty percent of all stroke deaths. • Two million brain cells die every minute during stroke, increasing risk of permanent brain damage, disability or death. Recognizing symptoms and acting fast to get medical attention can save a life a

The Road Not Taken

What happened on the crossroads... Four roads diverged in front of me, And sorry I could not travel all So as a traveller, long I stood And looked down to one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; But I took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and free of wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Four roads diverged in a wood, and I-- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference! . ..My version of the poem by Robert Frost.

The Wonders of "Tutuli" (Cerumen)

Cleaning our ears feels kind of nice. Right? Like scratching an itch. Getting out that nasty looking orange/brown/yellow wax gives one a sense of accomplishment. We look at the stain on the cotton buds with a certain element of personal pride. But, some of us, despite doing it almost everyday, end up having a condition called 'impacted cerumen'. Here's a post regarding it. Cerumen impaction is a condition in which earwax has become tightly packed in the external ear canal to the point that the canal is blocked. It develops when earwax accumulates in the inner part of the ear canal and blocks the eardrum. Impaction does not happen under normal circumstances because cerumen is produced by glands in the outer one third of the ear canal; it is not produced in the inner part. The cerumen traps sand or dust particles before they reach the ear drum. It also protects the outer part of the ear canal because it repels water. The slow movement of t

On the Crossroads, Again!

Once more I'm at the crossroads, Looking where to go, Deciding which is a better road, No signposts to follow. I'm not confused, just wondering, What I should do, what is best. I know that God will guide me, But I really wish I knew What path I should follow, The life I ought to make, the fruits I will gather, The risks I have to take. Should my mind or my feelings lead the way? My feelings pull me strongly, But my mind has more to say. I should follow faith, Because that I'm certain, God has a big plan, And I'm in the center of it. Once more at the crossroads, Lord where should I go? Every path a mystery, No signposts that I know. Help me God, guide me, I do not know the way. You are the one true shepherd Please lead me through today. My version of the poem by Terence Toolan .

Mother's diet can help determine sex of child: study

I had a conversation with a colleague earlier regarding my desire to have a son for my next child. I already have two very beautiful, smart and active daughters and it will be nice to have a boy in the house. My faith and conviction is that it's all in God's hands, will and time. That's why when I came across this health news, i dismissed it as something we shouldn't really believe. But then again, it wouldn't hurt as well to take a look at their basis and see if it really works. Moreover, I think as long as one is properly guided by faith, trying it will be somewhat fun and exciting. PARIS (AFP) - Oysters may excite the libido, but there is nothing like a hearty breakfast laced with sugar to boost a woman's chances of conceiving a son, according to a study released Wednesday. Likewise, a low-energy diet that skimps on calories, minerals and nutrients is more likely to yield a female of the human species, says the study, published in Proceedings of the

Rafting, Swimming, Hiking and Pineapples!

I had a wonderful opportunity to take a break last week as I attended the Midyear Convention of the Philippine Society of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in Cagayan de Oro. We had two days of learning and 3 days of fun. First, we visited Iligan City, Misamis Oriental, home to the famous Maria Cristina Falls. We had a wonderful time eating at the foot of another water fall, even if it was raining. Then, back to CDO for the convention proper. I was originally housed at the Malberry Suites, but was later transferred to the Pryce Hotel. Two of my companions stayed at the Koresko Hotel. Our next destination was Camiguin Island. We visited the hot and cold springs, the white beach, the sunken cemetery and hiked the old volcano, Hibok-hibok. White water rafting was the next activity. Despite the scare of the raft being deflated because we hit a rough rock, we had a blast! Before coming back to Manila, we had a short trip to the Del Monte Farm in Bukidnon. The plac
