Francis Kong's "How Bad Decisions Happen"

BUSINESS MATTERS (Beyond the bottom line) By Francis J. Kong (The Philippine Star)  Updated November 2, 2014 - 12:00am   Leadership is never easy. People desire positions of high leadership without knowing the many challenges that accompany such titles. Most people equate leadership with high positions, but this is not quite the case and I do have an explanation for this.   These people are focused on the perks of leadership; they do not understand the price of leadership. When you’re a leader, all eyes are on you.   Every person makes mistakes. No one is exempted from making wrong decisions. When you were a junior, you probably got some tongue lashing or a memo.   As a leader, you get the blame for every mistake. The entire team criticizes and comments against you. Your bosses start to doubt your capabilities and you begin to doubt yourself as well.   I’ve made many bad decisions when I was building my career as an ex...

On Bad Decisions

When faced with a decision in life, be it big or small, we hope and pray that we pick the best choice. Unfortunately, despite our good intentions, we make bad choices. Sometimes, the stress of being pressed to make a decision as soon as possible makes us settle for what we think is better at that particular time. We choose with a heavy heart, biased against the circumstances that made us choose in the first place. That sets us up to make decisions we wish we hadn't. As a believer of God’s will, I know that there is a path that God wants me to go and another that he doesn't want me to go. The map to the right direction is written in scriptures as all of God’s word “is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that we “may be complete, equipped for every good work.” But then again, even this can be lost in translation in our earthly mind.

On the Crossroads, Again!

Once more I'm at the crossroads, Looking where to go, Deciding which is a better road, No signposts to follow. I'm not confused, just wondering, What I should do, what is best. I know that God will guide me, But I really wish I knew What path I should follow, The life I ought to make, the fruits I will gather, The risks I have to take. Should my mind or my feelings lead the way? My feelings pull me strongly, But my mind has more to say. I should follow faith, Because that I'm certain, God has a big plan, And I'm in the center of it. Once more at the crossroads, Lord where should I go? Every path a mystery, No signposts that I know. Help me God, guide me, I do not know the way. You are the one true shepherd Please lead me through today. My version of the poem by Terence Toolan .
