My New Year Wish for All of You

My New Year wish for all of you Is to have a year better than just new, A year of peace and bounty, In love and joy not just in money. My New Year wish for all of you Is for health that is as fresh like a dew, A year in which you can cherish All that life will bring and admonish. I am praying for you the best And God will surely do the rest, May you be blessed with His abundance and grace As the year 2013 you now face.

Maligayang Pasko!

It is that time of the year again where plenty of gifts are given, food are un-endingly served and eaten, invitations to parties never stop and shopping daily seems insufficient.  We all have our own traditions and feelings about this holiday season but whatever it is, it is said may times, year in and year out, remember to celebrate the main purpose, that is, the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Season's Greetings!!!

Little Things

“Little drops of water, Little grains of sand, Make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land. Thus the little minutes, Humble though they be, Make the mighty ages Of eternity.” ― Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney I was listening to the song “Little Things” by One Direction on my way to work and I was reminded of two things: one, that often I overlook simple gestures that people do for me; and two, sometimes I fail to notice already the cute nuisances that people I love do to me. Living a fast-paced and highly stressful life makes us so focused and unable to appreciate already these two simple yet important ‘little things’ and because of that, we are missing out on the happiness that they bring. We no longer realize that these small things are the ones that are making us get through every challenging day of our lives. More than what the song says, I was reminded not to let these little things slip out of my heart and mind, as I should always acknowledge and s

On Losing Weight: Just Do it!

I had my executive check-up two months ago and my lipid levels are way up. It was expected as my BMI was already in the obese range that time. It was a wake-up call and so I resolved to bring all the health metrics within the normal range. I have lost 20 pounds since but I need to lose two times more to get to my ideal weight for my height. Sometimes when we subject ourselves to health check, we have the tendency to ‘cheat’ our way to get better results. I am sure some have tried not eating pork or beef one or two days before the blood extraction, hoping to get lower lipid levels. Guess what? We might be fooling ourselves! A study published this November in the Archive of Internal Medicine showed that fasting time prior to the blood draw had little association with lipid subclass levels. Data for the study came from the records of Calgary Laboratory Services, which is the sole supplier of laboratory services for Calgary, and a population of about 1.4 million people.

Why Do we Remember the Dead?

By Pam Peters-Pries Why do we remember the dead? We remember simply because we loved them, and we long to see them again. We remember because we can't help it. We remember the dead because we know that we will also die. We confront the mystery of the end of life and wonder what it was like for those we loved and what it will be like for us. What will it be like to be in heaven, to be with God? To be free of pain and sorrow? Will we see our parents, our spouse, our friends who have gone before us? Will we be able to look down and keep an eye on those who are dear to us, or watch them gather around our own casket and listen to them tell stories about us? We remember the dead to honor their lives and to learn how to live. To demonstrate that although they no longer walk with us, sit with us or talk with us, the impact of their lives on ours is not forgotten, nor is it finished. We remember the dead, their lives, the goodbyes we shared or wish we had shared. W

Do you Believe in Drug Expiration Dates?

Pharmaceuticals warn customers to throw away medicines after the expiration date. This is in compliance to the US Law passed in 1979 requiring them to do so, and this date is supposed to be the time at which the manufacturer can still guarantee the full potency and safety of the drug. However, a study conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration at the request of the military in 1985 showed that 90% of more than 100 drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter, were perfectly good to use even 15 years after the expiration date. “So the expiration date doesn't really indicate a point at which the medication is no longer effective or has become unsafe to use. Medical authorities state expired drugs are safe to take, even those that expired years ago. While it's true that the effectiveness of a drug may decrease over time, much of the original potency still remains even a decade after the expiration date. Excluding nitroglycerin, insulin, and

On Bad Decisions

When faced with a decision in life, be it big or small, we hope and pray that we pick the best choice. Unfortunately, despite our good intentions, we make bad choices. Sometimes, the stress of being pressed to make a decision as soon as possible makes us settle for what we think is better at that particular time. We choose with a heavy heart, biased against the circumstances that made us choose in the first place. That sets us up to make decisions we wish we hadn't. As a believer of God’s will, I know that there is a path that God wants me to go and another that he doesn't want me to go. The map to the right direction is written in scriptures as all of God’s word “is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that we “may be complete, equipped for every good work.” But then again, even this can be lost in translation in our earthly mind.

Life Changing Move

Extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner landed safely in the eastern New Mexico desert minutes after jumping from his capsule 128,000 feet, or 24 miles, above Earth. His free fall is said to be faster than the speed of sound. Baumgartner, who was born in Salzburg, Austria, on April 20, 1969, believes that “Everyone has limits – but not everyone accepts them”. He has been preparing for this for five years and he has always believed that he can do it. Shortly before leaping, in footage beamed live around the world on a crackly radio link recalling Neil Armstrong's first words on the Moon, Baumgartner had said: "Sometimes you have (to go) up really high to (understand) how small you are." In our lives, we make life changing decisions that we can never take back. It's done and the repercussions are already there. However difficult to accept, we have to learn to live with it and move on. Felix's phenomenal jump from outer space is a decision h

What's the Fuss About the Cybercrime Law? Part 1

Everyone is buzzing about the newly signed Cybercrime Prevention Law. I have no idea what it is all about so I tried searching for information about it. With various interpretations, it is really ideal to get hold and read the law itself for a better understanding. Before joining the bandwagon, know what you're fighting for or against. These are the vital provisions: Republic Act No. 10175 AN ACT DEFINING CYBERCRIME, PROVIDING FOR THE PREVENTION, INVESTIGATION, SUPPRESSION AND THE IMPOSITION OF PENALTIES THEREFOR AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES SEC. 2. Declaration of Policy . — The State recognizes the vital role of information and communications industries such as content production, telecommunications, broadcasting electronic commerce, and data processing, in the nation’s overall social and economic development. The State also recognizes the importance of providing an environment conducive to the development, acceleration, and rational application and exploitation of

8th Year of being a Father

Today is the birthday of the my eldest daughter Monty. As I sit in my new workplace alone as it is still early, I can't help but reflect the fact that it has been 8 years since I became a father and my life hasn't been the same since.  I grew up practically living for myself, doing things for my satisfaction and my fulfillment. Later, I realized that a purposeful life is one that is lived for God. I was steered to the right path and it was all good. Then I was blessed with a lifetime companion and it made the journey lighter and enjoyable. On September 28, 2004, we were gifted with our first child and it became all the more meaningful. Now I am living for God, my wife and my two daughters and I am truly happy. Whatever this journey will bring me, I know that I just have to face it because it is just not me anymore, but it's for them too.

Two Weeks of Rejuvenation

I am on the 12th day of a two-week break from work. Everything happened so fast these past two months that before I got a real sense of what's happening, I left my previous company already and is moving on to another. To think that it was never part of my 2012 plans! But anyway, decision's made, everything has fallen into place and the transition is under way. Now I am enjoying every single minute of being jobless and a house body.  I am not just lying around though because lately, I have been experiencing a lot of non specific illnesses that I truly believe is attributable to my increasing body weight. I resolved to go on diet and do some exercise. I am feeling a little bit lighter so far since I started and it's giving me the drive to push further. It would not hurt to have a healthy body as I assume new responsibilities. Mentally, I have unloaded my mind of all the stresses of the previous work and just filling it up with optimism for the job ahead. Watching

Noah's Ark: Proof of a Purpose-driven Life

Excerpts from an incredible interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, "Purpose Driven Life " Author and Pastor of Saddleback Church in California. His wife now has cancer, and he now has "wealth" from the book sales. Rick said: People ask me, what is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven. One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me. I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense. Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting

Graduating...Again!

Yesterday, I finished revising the last requirement for my MBA in Health. It is a wonderful feeling to realize that two years have passed and I was able to finish yet another course, my fourth specialty! Now I am more confident to seat with the business executives in Makati without having to wonder what the hell are they talking about when they speak about market size and growth, financial impacts, brand equity and other business lingo. I will now understand where they are coming from and how a business should run. Who would have thought that one day, I will be in the company of 'men in ties and suits"? A 'probinsiyano' from a place my former classmate call "isang dipa na lang, langit na!" is now one of those hastily walking in the streets of the Makati business district. This was not part of my kindergarten speech "when I grow up, i want to be..."! But, as a faithful sheep to my Lord and Shepherd, I believe everything has a purpose and

Too Busy

I just remembered that I have not posted any in this blog for almost 3 months now. The demands of my present job have been so hectic that my mind cannot seem to find an inspiration to write something. I am starting my blog activity this year with a relevant article from my idol Francis Kong. He always seems to know what I am going through most of the time. Be inspired! TOO BUSY, TOO BUSY, TOO BUSY by Francis Kong  A FRENCH PROVERB SAYS: “None so busy as those who do nothing.” But what about being too busy all the time? The truth is if you are too busy to relax, then you are too busy. Technology is a big culprit behind the reason why we become so busy. Just think about this: Do you remember the predictions about the paperless office and the leisure society? Between 1999 and 2002 global use of paper increased by 22% and we now seem to have less spare time than ever. We are also sleeping less than we used to, down from 9 hours per day in 1900 to 6.9 hours today
