I Love My Doctor!

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true? A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap. Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products. Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake? A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of...

Being A Boss

When I was younger and saw men in suits professing to be ‘bosses’ of companies, I envisioned them only as people who have high salaries, easy life and considerable power. Now that I’m in their position, I realized that it is not always the case. At the back of the large salaries, the life of a ‘boss’ is not at all easy. Bosses work long hours. Many times you do not receive full credit for the time you spend on numerous tasks. I don’t know for others but I think some managers even make little or no more than their subordinates. I come to office long before other employees of the company arrive, and sometimes stay much later after everyone leaves. There is constantly work that has to be done that I must do, as well as deal with unexpected events that pop up. On top of that, there are meetings to attend to. It really involves a balancing act of activities at work, outside of work and family life. The work consists of many different tasks. I make it a point, as I am expec...

Purely Inconsiderate!

For the past several months, I've been parking in front of Metro Supermarket everytime I was having clinic at SLMC. The reason behind was that the parking space inside the hospital's premises was always full. Even if I had to commute to and from Metro, it was working well with me..until last Saturday when some "undescribable' being decided to place two long deep scratches on my car! I was dumbfounded when I saw the scratches. My car is old but I really take good care of it. Being an OC is also a reason. So just imagine how furious I was at that moment. What kind of satisfaction would it bring to anyone who would do such thing? Purely inconsideration! I still can't get over what happened. As I was on my way to work this morning, every polished car that came to view reminded me of the scratches my car has now. So frustrating indeed.

"Urok"

"Urok" is the ilocano term for 'snore'. It's a common sound to many but knowledge of its significance is uncommon to the majority. Here are some facts about 'urok' that you might not know about. When someone is snoring it can be very annoying to anyone else who is nearby and trying to sleep. It can also be unhealthy for the person who is snoring. Though snoring is often joked about, it really isn’t a laughing matter. Snoring is caused by the narrowing of the airway. When someone falls asleep and relaxes, his/her muscles relax too. As the muscles relax the airway becomes smaller which causes the snoring. If a person is very tired and falls into a deeper sleep the muscles relax even more. That’s why people who are very tired snore more often. Alcohol also relaxes the muscles more than usual. That’s why people find that they snore more after drinking alcohol. There are certain positions the body can lie that will cause more snoring as well. T...

Early Bird

For the past 10 months, my body clock has been set to wake me up at 5 AM. This has something to do with my current workplace. I have to leave the house between 6 and 6:15AM to reach the office before 7AM. Any minute later than this would translate to me battling with the rush of vehicles and unbelievable traffic to reach the Tektite. I'm not complaining. In fact I found out that waking up early has benefits. I can commune with God early. I can take sweet time drinking my morning dose of coffee and can have a relaxing, pressure-free moment 'unloading' my stresses while sitting on the 'throne' of comfort. I get time to work on some tasks that I missed out the day before. I get to post something in this blog. Finally, I get to feel good and proud that I woke up early, a feat not common these days. Anyone can wake up early, once you've gotten used to it. It’s true that the first few days of waking up early are likely to be difficult, but once the r...
