"E. C." Way To Avoid Noise-Induced Hearing Loss

THURSDAY, Feb. 19 ( HealthDay News ) -- Vitamin supplements appear to prevent noise-induced hearing loss in lab animals, a new study shows. According to researchers, the finding suggests that it may be possible to create a pill that protects against noise-induced and even age-related hearing loss in humans. Two studies found that giving supplements containing antioxidants [ beta carotene and vitamins C and E] and the mineral magnesium to test animals before they were exposed to a loud noise prevented both temporary and permanent hearing loss. In the first study, vitamin supplements protected guinea pigs exposed to four hours of 110-decibel noise, similar to levels reached at a rock concert. In the second study, vitamin supplements prevented hearing loss in mice exposed to a single loud noise. The findings were to be presented Wednesday at the Association for Research in Otolaryngology annual meeting. Previous research showed that antioxidants can also protect h

Death Of An Uncle

We always loved you even if we didn’t show it  We never imagined you dying so soon  You did not give us any warning  But even if you did We don’t know if it would have changed anything.  Your death was a surprise and you left a lot of questions unanswered  Like your kids and the rest of your family, like me  No one could read your mind to see what you saw  And no one will ever know now. Little drops of rain, whispers of the pain, I hope you were watching that day When my siblings and I gathered around your casket To see you lying there cold faced with the look of happiness on your face We were all there to show you that we cared a lot about you No matter how much you think we didn't . With the kind of life you lived  We know that you’re happy now with your reward,  Although we did not have the chance to say good bye Know that in our hearts, we are proud that you were an uncle And we'll miss you.

My Pursuit Of HappYness

We all go through this life not knowing what will come our way. We live by faith, and by that, it is as if we are walking in a long winding path , stumbling at times, getting lost at times, resting every once in a while, charging and running at times...believing and praying that there is an end to this path somewhere. My life is nothing different to this walk. I had my shares of stumbles, rests, runs and losts. There were also times when I just stopped walking and wanted to give up. But there were also times that I walked so fast I didn't realize how much distance I have already covered. All these are part of my own pursuit of happiness. A life of contentment. A life geared towards doing it's purpose. A new terrain is up ahead in my path...something unfamiliar, definitely challenging. I pray that I would be able to pass through unscathed and a better person than ever.
