"Kiss of Deaf"

This article was posted in our society's yahoo group. It's quite interesting but true! "A young Chinese woman was left partially deaf following a passionate kiss from her boyfriend. The 20-something from Zhuhai in Guangdong province arrived at hospital having completely lost the hearing in her left ear, said local reports. The incident prompted a series of articles in the local media warning of the dangers of excessive kissing. "While kissing is normally very safe, doctors advise people to proceed with caution," wrote the China Daily. The doctor who treated the girl in hospital was quoted in the paper explaining what had happened.  "The kiss reduced the pressure in the mouth, pulled the eardrum out and caused the breakdown of the ear."The chorus of warnings was echoed by the Shanghai Daily, which wrote: "A strong kiss may cause an imbalance in the air pressure between two inner ears and lead to a broken ear drum." The young woman is expect

A Life's Choice

As I was meditating one day, it dawned on me that I have been dwelling on a lot of negatives the past year. My mind has been busy exploring the intricacies of something that is perceived to be bad. I almost made hasty decisions in the process and risked falling into the traps of irrationality. This is a good realization and I think I should do something about it. From now on, I will try, not to move away from the negative, rather, trek towards the positive. A writer once said that when you move towards a positive influence, your focus becomes the positive. All your energy will be on that positive influence. You’ll move away from any negative influence by default - so you needn’t expend any energy towards the negative whatsoever. Plus, you’ll be moving in a clear direction towards your desired outcome instead of simply moving away from something you no longer desire. This is different when you move away from a negative influence where your focus remains on the negative. You’ll s

Savor the Coffee!

Lately, I think I'm unconsciously going back to a vice I got rid off months ago, that is, drinking more than 2 mugs of coffee a day! I used to consume more than 4 Starbuck's mug- full of coffee a day but when I started to feel some discomfort like palpitation and foreign body sensation in the throat, I chose to stop. But, as I've said, maybe because of the cold weather and the stress of work, I think I've fallen into the caffeine aroma spell once again. As I was on my second round of cafe' this morning, I read this article and it gave me a different view about this drink. It gave me a false sense of justification about this vice. Read along and find out. A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired. During their visit the conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kit

Hepatitis A

Last week, a 24-year old male came to me for consult regarding his yellowish palpebral conjunctiva and allegedly tea-colored urine. He said he already sought medical opinion the week prior and was told it was a viral infection. Urinalysis turned out to be unremarkable. The first thing that came to mind was Hepatitis A so I requested for anti-HAV(IgM) determination as well as HbsAg. The following day, he showed me the result and I was right. The anti-HAV was reactive. Here's an article regarding Hepatitis A. Hepatitis A , (formerly known as infectious hepatitis), is an acute infectious disease of the liver caused by Hepatitis A virus, which is most commonly transmitted by the fecal-oral route via contaminated food or drinking water. The time between infection and the appearance of the symptoms, (the incubation period ), is between two and six weeks and the average incubation period is 28 days . Hepatitis A does not have a chronic stage and does not cause p

2009: A New Year With The Lord

A new year is about to unfold With new opportunities to explore Doors will open for new experiences New adventures with the Lord Remember not the former things The things of this past year The Lord will do new things in us Much more than we are aware For He will make a way for us As we put our trust in Him And He will guide our every step By His presence we have within What God has placed within our hearts We find we’ll be able to do If we look for the opportunities We’ll see the door to go through We mustn’t let anything hold us back But rise up and take our place And be all that God wants us to be With a fresh touch of His grace. © By M.S.Lowndes
